I hold a Masters of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from George Fox University and a Bachelors of Science in Music from Linfield College. I am also a certified teacher of music and health. Major coursework includes human growth and development, family and couples counseling, multicultural counseling, drug and alcohol counseling, spirituality and advanced therapeutic strategies and the Core Values Index.
Since I received my Masters of Marriage and Family Therapy in 2004 I have worked in schools as a Prevention/Intervention Specialist, working with students and families struggling with various issues including drug and alcohol, school success, anxiety, self harm and many other issues. Since 2006, in addition to my work in the Hillsboro and Beaverton school districts I have also maintained a private practice. I am also an adjunct professor in the Masters of Counseling program at George Fox University. In 2010 I began doing private practice full-time. In addition to counseling I train counselors and coaches in the use of the Core Values Index and hold couples conferences with my husband Eric Walters.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) for the state of Oregon. I abide by the Code of Ethics
Counseling is directly informed by my personal life. My husband and I have been happily married since 1982. We work hard to keep our marriage vital and speak on marriage to couples at conferences and retreats. Helping others to maintain healthy marriages is one of our passions. Another passion is raising our three boys. We had three boys in three and a half years, so even though our early childhood phase is long past, we clearly remember the joys and difficulties of all phases of parenting. Now our boys are completing or have completed college and are all married, so we are entering an entirely new stage of parenting. We are closely involved with our own parents as well, in fact my mother has lived with us since 2003 and my father-in-law since 2010. Community is our focus; be it through our children and their friends, young couples we mentor through church or building strong familial relationships.
Other hobbies of mine are scrapbooking, coffee with friends, entertaining and staying fit. I love to sing and enjoy attending musical events as well.
